These images show a section of Maple Hills before and during control. The top row of images show areas filled with common buckthorn. The bottom row of images were taken during control efforts to remove the buckthorn.
Three control methods were completed to demonstrate the different ways that buckthorn can be controlled. The first was cut-stump, where the buckthorn is cut down and treated with herbicides. The second was foliar, where the leaves of the buckthorn were sprayed with herbicides. The final was basal bark, where the trunks of the buckthorn were sprayed with an oil and herbicide mixture.
Any regrowth will be controlled using these methods. Following control of the area, native plants will be planted. Native grasses, wildflowers, shrubs, and trees will be planted to restore the area.
